Lisa is the bass trombonist of the Bozeman Symphony and is currently based in Portland, Oregon. She has performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, the Buffalo Philharmonic, the Sarasota Orchestra and the Charleston Symphony. She recently completed a fellowship with the New World Symphony. She has spent her summers performing with the Music Academy of the West, the National Repertory Orchestra and the National Orchestral Institute. In 2018, Lisa was selected to participate in the inaugural Keston MAX LSO Fellowship through the Music Academy of the West and performed with the London Symphony Orchestra in 2019. She also had the privilege of joining the Monarch Brass at the 2019 International Women’s Brass Conference.
Lisa has been engaged by multiple school districts and programs as a teaching artist. In 2020, she was the Trombone Teaching Artist for the VIA Music Academy’s inaugural summer festival. During her time at the New World Symphony, she worked with Miami’s El Sistema program, instructed sectionals at local high schools, and participated in an educational initiative for young musicians in partnership with PBS. Through New World Symphony’s partnership with Iberacademy, Lisa was a Bass Trombone Teaching Artist for the Universidad de Antioquia’s 2018 Simposio Internacional de Trombón. When the pandemic hit, she continued to provide virtual instruction for Iberacademy’s students in Colombia and Peru, teaching partially in Spanish. While completing her Master’s degree, Lisa taught private lessons at many school districts in the greater Houston area, leading her students to spots in the TMEA District and Regions Bands.
As a soloist, Lisa was a finalist in the 2018 Music Academy of the West Concerto Competition. She also received fourth place in the Donald Yaxley Solo Competition in 2016. While at SUNY Fredonia, she completed a Performer’s Certificate, receiving the highest level of achievement for her recital performances. Her most recent recital performance, Shattering The Brass Ceiling, a combination recital and effort to promote women composers and brass players, drew an audience of 350 people and inspired more diverse programming for the next New World Symphony season. Lisa is passionate about diversity in music and hopes to take an active part in challenging the conventionalities of classical music in the future.
Lisa received her Master’s degree from Rice University, where she studied under Allen Barnhill, Barbara Butler and Charlie Geyer. She received her Bachelor’s degree from SUNY Fredonia where she studied with Jeffrey Dee. Her other former teachers include Mark Lawrence, Ralph Sauer, Norman Bolter and Jeanne Pocius Dorismond.
In her free time, Lisa enjoys browsing bookstores, drinking good coffee, reading thought-provoking books, and hanging out in the garden with her housemates and their dog, Gus.
